The Beauty Benefits of Essential Oils for Your Skin

Posted by Alexa Hoffman on

Essential oils have been used for centuries in Ayurveda and other ancient practices to heal all aspects of our health. When it comes to skincare, these potent plant extracts can be a game-changer. In this blog post, let’s explore the world of essential oils and how they can benefit your skin. From reducing acne to improving skin elasticity, these natural remedies have a lot to offer; essential oils are also effective for mood and mental health, packing a plethora of wellness benefits.

1. Lavender Oil: The All-Rounder

Lavender essential oil is renowned for its soothing properties and one of the most familiar essential oils. It can help calm irritated skin, reduce redness, and promote relaxation. Its antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties make it a must-have in your skincare arsenal. Lavender is in many Alevan blends, but our customers love Relax, Soothe and the Sleep spritz as their favorites for applying to the face.

2. Patchouli: Natural Astringent for Acne and Aging Skin

Patchouli is a beautiful oil that has an affinity for the skin as well as our nervous system. This oil is helpful for inflamed skin conditions, such as acne, as well as helpful for aging skin. Try using our Evening Spritz as a nightly face toner to support your before bed skincare routine. Evening is a blend of patchouli, clary sage and ylang ylang. We love that patchouli helps our skin, but also is grounding and centering to maintain a calm nervous system. Win-win!

3. Eucalyptus: Toner for Oily Skin

Eucalyptus is also a familiar oil; most often known for its clearing and respiratory benefits especially during Kapha season (winter). It is also effective for oily skin and acne; use Awaken as a morning energizing face mist to support your skin health and clear your mind for the day ahead.

4. Frankincense: The Skin Tightener

Frankincense essential oil has been used for centuries for its skin rejuvenating properties and is currently becoming very popular in skincare, for good reason. It can help reduce the appearance of scars and wrinkles, improve skin tone and elasticity, and promote a more youthful complexion. Put a couple drops of Soothe blend into your favorite skin serum or use Relax as a daily face oil.

5. Roman Chamomile: Gentle on Sensitive Skin

Chamomile essential oil is perfect for those with sensitive or inflamed skin; it is a perfect oil to start with if you find most skincare products irritate your skin. It has soothing and anti-inflammatory properties that can calm irritated skin and reduce redness. Chamomile is featured in our Sleep Spritz and Relax oil. Sleep Spritz can be misted nightly onto your pillow and your face where Relax is a oil to hydrate your face and body while preparing you for rest and relaxation.

6. Jojoba: Balancing and Hydrating

Jojoba oil closely resembles our skin's natural oils, making it an excellent moisturizer. It's non-comedogenic, meaning it won't clog pores, making it suitable for all skin types. This oil can help balance oil production and keep your skin hydrated and supple. We love this oil so much, it is what our massage oils and roller blends are blended with; we also use organic jojoba oil to ensure the highest quality for you and your skin.

7. Ylang-Ylang: Balancing Oily Skin

Ylang-ylang essential oil can help regulate sebum production in oily skin, making it a valuable addition to your skincare routine. It also has a floral scent that can boost your mood and reduce stress. A little known fact, this is one of the only floral essential oils you will see in our products because the physical skin benefits and lift to our emotional and mental states it provides. Mist Evening onto your skin after removing makeup and washing your face in the evening to shift into relax mode. You can use a couple drops of Divine blend in a facial steamer or put a couple drops into your favorite moisturizer or serum.

8. Geranium: Skin's Best Friend

Geranium essential oil is known for its skin-loving properties. It can improve circulation, balance skin's oil production, help with hormonal acne and even help fade scars and blemishes. This versatile oil is suitable for all skin types. Geranium is in our Divine and Soothe blends.
